This week, I worked on the second painting, we decided to let go of the third painting as we would not have time to complete it.
The second painting involves a library scene, I communicated with Kiki and Amy to figure out what was necessary to include into the scene.
What puzzles would be included in the scene and how many different layers I would have to create and how I would divide and conquer this piece.
I got the main part of it complete, I just need to work on the characters, office room and a close up on the shelves.
Another tedious aspect was colouring all the books in the shelves, as it was so far into the background I decided to forgo lineart instead using blocks of colour.
I would do a couple books, copy and paste them, flip the image and place on a different shelf, as I was not about to draw every book just enough to have variation.
It was decided that colour wise this piece will be in jewel tones, so it has been difficult to make everything not be an eyesore and look cohesive with all the bright colours and tones.
I ended up deciding that warm colours to the background and cool tones to the front, with the brightest being the purple and having the rest be less saturated so they aren't all competing. The orange is also rather strong but it gives the piece balance as it is at the top of the piece and the purple is at the bottom.
The most detail went into the door, which contrasts everything in terms of texture as well as the bright purple leading the eye towards it not to mention the benching doing a similar thing. The doors also had an obvious eye motif.
Since the player's end task is to clean the office behind those door (which also hides secrets the narrator doesn't want the player to find), having it be so eye catching is a good way to bring up intrigue and curiosity within a player.
